BRICK – Township-based service providers and contractors are being encouraged to join Buy in Brick – the property tax reward card program introduced by Mayor John Ducey in 2014. Through the program, residents receive a credit on their property tax bill every time they shop at participating businesses.
“In a little less than a year and a half, Buy in Brick has earned residents $55,000 in property tax savings for shopping and dining locally,” said Mayor Ducey. “At the same time, participating businesses have generated more than $735,000 in sales through the program.”
Local service providers, such as painters, landscapers and plumbers, would benefit from the built in marketing and promotional components of Buy in Brick. Participating businesses are regularly acknowledged during public meetings, at community events, and on the township newsletter, recreation brochure and Facebook page.
“The newsletter was mailed to every home in Brick and we have over 18,000 followers on our township Facebook page,” said Councilwoman Heather deJong, who chairs the Economic Development Committee. “This exposure is valuable to any business, especially contractors and skilled laborers who may not have a traditional storefront.”
The municipality is encouraging residents to utilize the businesses in the program for their “spring cleaning” and other seasonal projects.
“All homeowners make a ‘to-do’ list once the warm weather arrives,” said Mayor Ducey. “By utilizing a participating Buy in Brick business, you get the satisfaction of checking off a project on your list while also receiving a discount on your property taxes.”
Among the more than 40 businesses currently participating in the program, several provide home goods, such as flooring, windows, doors and siding. Buy in Brick also contains service providers such as builders, electricians, HVAC specialists, carpet cleaners and exterminators.
All Brick-based businesses are welcome to join the program. Interested businesses should email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (732) 262-1050. An updated list of participating businesses and more information is available on the township website at www.bricktownship.net/buy-in-brick.
